West Jordan Records Access Map
A West Jordan address does not point to one master database. West Jordan city records include ordinances, approved council minutes, planning minutes, permits, business-license material, and police reports subject to classification and redaction. Salt Lake County holds land instruments, the current property roll, marriage licenses, elections material, and older county files. Utah courts keep case records, while state offices control vital certificates and corrections data.
The first West Jordan search result may be free, paid, restricted, or available only by request. The access column identifies the most direct route and the useful fallback when the web tool is not enough.
| West Jordan record set | Keeper | Online route | Access and fallback |
|---|---|---|---|
| West Jordan city decisions and police files | West Jordan City Recorder or Police Records | Public Documents Library or request page | Published files first; narrow GRAMA request for other public material |
| Deeds, liens, releases, and plats | Salt Lake County Recorder | Free property list; paid Data Services | Counter, email, or document-copy form |
| Owner, situs, parcel, and value | Salt Lake County Assessor | Free current parcel roll and GIS | Online search or office at 385-468-8000 |
| District and justice cases | Utah Courts | Xchange | Paid web access; free public terminals; clerk copy request |
| West Jordan birth and death certificates | County health department or Utah OVRS | Certificate order channel | Eligibility-controlled; mail and local health channels also available |
| Historical files tied to West Jordan | Salt Lake County Archives | Catalogs and selected indexes | Appointment, research request, scans, or certified copy |
Voter status uses a personal verification tool rather than an open surname browser. Detailed eligibility, file fields, and voter privacy belong with West Jordan voter registration. A portal entry also does not guarantee that each document behind it is public.
Three Levels of West Jordan Records
West Jordan is a city within Salt Lake County, not its own county records jurisdiction. West Jordan City Hall is the proper custodian for municipal decisions, city licenses, city permits, and police-report requests. The county becomes the correct level for recorded real-estate instruments, valuation, marriage licenses, and county archives. A postal city name alone does not transfer county material to the City Recorder.
Court jurisdiction adds another split. West Jordan Justice Court handles most class B and C misdemeanors, infractions, West Jordan city ordinance cases, traffic matters, and qualifying small claims. The Utah Third District Court in West Jordan handles felony and class A criminal matters, general civil cases, domestic cases, and probate. Federal District of Utah records use PACER and federal clerk procedures.
The statewide Open Records Portal routes West Jordan requests, but it is not a combined name index. Courts, vital records, corrections, the Recorder, and the Archives still apply their own rules. Choosing the keeper first prevents a broad request from landing at an office that never created or maintained the file.
Note: A West Jordan mailing address may differ from the municipal boundary, parcel tax city, school boundary, or voting precinct.
West Jordan Recorder Search Tiers
The Salt Lake County Recorder records deeds, liens, releases, plats, and other real-property instruments affecting West Jordan parcels. Its free public search begins after acceptance of the terms. The user must choose a West Jordan address or parcel from the autocomplete list. Results can be at least 24 hours old, and the county cautions that a title search may still be needed.
See the Recorder public property-document search before reviewing the captured interface.
The screen shows why a standardized West Jordan address or parcel number is the key to the free instrument list. A person-name chain of title requires the Recorder's deeper Data Services product or help from the office.
| Recorder input or product | Format | Use and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Address | Autocomplete selection | Free property-document list after terms acceptance |
| Parcel number | Autocomplete selection | Free parcel-linked instrument list |
| Temporary Data Services login | Paid account | $5 provides 150 units for 24 hours |
| Full Data Services | Unit packages | Owner history, legal descriptions, documents, tract index, chain of title, maps, and plats |
| Document request | Office form | Uses book/page or parties, date, document type, and index details |
The Recorder does not state the earliest online index year in the official material reviewed. Offline West Jordan deed copies remain important. Ordinary copies cost $2 per page, vault or historical copies cost $5 per page, and certification costs $5 plus $2 per page. Recorder staff can be reached at 385-468-8145 or RecorderQ@saltlakecounty.gov.
West Jordan Assessor Records Carefully Read
The free Salt Lake County Assessor search accepts a current owner name, a component West Jordan address, or a parcel ID. Owner input needs at least three letters, and a personal name follows the format LAST, FIRST. Address fields split the frontage number, direction, street name or number, type, and final direction. The first ten parcel digits identify the base parcel; four optional digits identify an encumbrance.
Open the Assessor owner, address, and parcel search to compare the live fields with the captured form.
A West Jordan parcel card can show the owner, situs address, acreage, property type, tax district, values, exemptions, land and building facts, coordinates, and value history. Situs means the physical property address. The inspected card did not display a separate owner mailing address.
Assessor ownership is refreshed after the May tax-roll close, not after every new deed. That delay is a West Jordan records quirk with a practical effect: the annual owner name is useful, but the Recorder's instruments establish transfer and title. An owner-occupied exemption is also not proof that a named person lives there today.
West Jordan Parcel Map Limits
The county GIS route adds map context to the annual West Jordan roll. It can find a parcel number, owner, or address, accept more than one parcel, and select features by point, line, polygon, or a distance buffer. The system returns only the first 1,000 results. Maps may be exported in PDF or several image and vector formats.
Review the Salt Lake County Assessor Parcel Viewer as the official source for the West Jordan map interface.
The viewer connects West Jordan parcel geometry to owner and address data, but it does not turn the Assessor roll into title evidence. Use the parcel and legal description to move into Recorder documents. County Archives appraisal cards, building photos, permits, ledgers, and maps can then extend the property trail into older periods.
Free versus deeper access. The Assessor and parcel viewer are free. The Recorder's $5 day pass reaches chain-of-title data that the annual assessment roll does not provide.
Note: The first seven parcel digits can return a block, which may help when an old West Jordan street name has changed.
West Jordan Court Records Channels
Utah Courts Xchange searches public district and justice court case information. To isolate West Jordan cases, search controls include jurisdiction, all cases or judgments, case number, last name or company, first name, case type, statewide or local scope, birth date, citation details, and date ranges. A surname is exact unless an asterisk is used. Filters matter because results stop at 500.
A West Jordan result can identify the county, court, case type and number, filing date, party, role, and a case history or document path. More detail may include the judge, lawyers, hearings, judgment, charges, plea, disposition, and accounting. A docket is the court's event list for a case. It is not a promise that every linked pleading can be viewed.
- Online Xchange access costs $.35 per search and $1 per document.
- Free public terminals are available at many Utah courts and the Utah State Law Library.
- The West Jordan copy form accepts case and party details plus regular, certified, or exemplified copy choices.
- Plain court copies cost $.25 per page; certification and email delivery add stated charges.
Utah’s court classification rules exclude sealed, expunged, juvenile, adoption, and other nonpublic material. Many domestic and guardianship pleadings have been private since April 2012, although a case history, public hearing minutes, or final order may remain open. That split defeats the myth that a case hit makes the whole file public.
West Jordan Public Records Offices
Online indexes do not replace the counter, mail, email, or appointment channel. These offices cover the main West Jordan records systems and can clarify whether an index entry, plain copy, certified copy, or formal request fits the need.

West Jordan Police Records uses police.records@westjordan.utah.gov for its own records channel. Police reports, prosecutor discovery, and Xchange are different files even when they arise from the same incident. Reports generally are not released until adjudication or court processing, while a listed domestic-violence victim may receive the report promptly without charge.
West Jordan Vital Records Boundaries
Recent Utah vital certificates are controlled records, not an open name database. Utah Code §26B-8-125 limits access to the subject and listed close relatives, an authorized agent, or a person with documented legal need. Birth certificates become public after 100 years, death certificates after 50 years, and marriage or divorce records after 75 years.
The Utah Office of Vital Records and Statistics accepts online and mail orders, and the Salt Lake County Health Department supplies a local birth and death route. A mail request needs an application, fee, and valid identification. Linking certificates or proof of legal authority may also be required.
Custody depends on the document. The state office holds West Jordan birth and death records from 1905 until archival transfer. Its marriage and divorce abstracts mainly cover 1978 through 2010. The Salt Lake County Clerk holds the source marriage license, while Third District Court holds the divorce decree. An abstract verifies an event but is not the underlying court or clerk file.
Note: Live Utah vital-record fee schedules control when older PDF applications display totals that no longer match the current charge.
West Jordan Custody Records Are Separate
West Jordan custody and registry research operates at different government levels. Salt Lake County Sheriff prisoner information covers current county jail custody. The Utah Department of Corrections offender search covers state prison and community-supervision records. Federal custody has its own Bureau of Prisons locator, while Utah's Sex and Kidnap Offender Registry carries a separate official disclaimer and use limits.
These are current snapshots, not full criminal histories. A matching name needs identifiers and confirmation from the agency. The county Sheriff is the fallback for jail status, DOC is the keeper for state corrections status, and the court clerk or Xchange holds the related public case record. A West Jordan police report remains a city agency record subject to its own classification and release process.
West Jordan Records Beyond Online Indexes
Salt Lake County Archives spans territorial and county records from 1852 to the present. Its holdings include Clerk, Assessor, Treasurer, and Selectmen records, permits, appraisal cards, building photographs, tax ledgers, maps, health files, and official records. Viewing is generally free by appointment. The first 15 minutes of research are free, followed by research charged at $25 per hour on a prorated basis.
The Utah State Archives research catalog provides another route for historical state and local records.
The catalog can be searched by the agency that created a record, including West Jordan, Salt Lake County, Jordan School District, and individual schools. Older Third District material may have transferred after 50 years, so an Archives inquiry can succeed when a current court portal does not reach the needed period.
Marriage and probate records also cross keepers. The County Archives holds marriage applications and licenses from 1887 through 1939, subject to a 75-year closure, plus bride and groom indexes for 1896 through 1907. Current marriage copies come from the County Clerk. Historical probate registers are browsable rather than full-text searchable and can mix estates, guardianships, name changes, and restricted adoptions.
West Jordan Records Terms Defined
Record systems use short terms that describe different levels of proof and access. Reading them precisely helps avoid treating a web result as the final document.
- Index
- A finding list with names, dates, identifiers, or document references. It may not include the recorded image.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the custodian. It costs more than a plain copy and may be required for an official purpose.
- Custodian
- The city, county, court, or state office that creates or maintains the requested record.
- Exemption
- A legal basis for withholding a record or part of it despite Utah's general rule of public access.
- Segregable portion
- The public part that can be released after private, controlled, or protected information is removed.
Inspection under GRAMA is ordinarily free. Copies, certification, staff production time, and specialized portal access may cost money. Recorder ordinary copies are $2 per page, Archives scans are $.25 per page, and Xchange charges by search and document. Those fees buy different products, so the cheapest route depends on whether the goal is to inspect, identify, or authenticate a record.
Requesting West Jordan Public Records
Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act, or GRAMA, appears in Utah Code Title 63G, Chapter 2. Any person may request an open government record. A request under §63G-2-204 must include the requester's name, mailing address, daytime phone if available, and a description specific enough for the agency to locate the material.
- Identify the entity that created or maintains the record. Separate West Jordan city files from Salt Lake County, Utah court, and state records.
- Check the custodian's published library, portal, or catalog. Decide whether an index entry, inspection, electronic copy, or certified copy is needed.
- Describe the record by type, date range, names, address, and any case, parcel, document, or license number. State the desired format.
- Submit the custodian's form, online request, email, or mailed letter. Ask for a fee estimate or cap, inspection, waiver, or expedited public-benefit treatment when applicable.
- Track the response. A normal GRAMA response is due as soon as reasonably possible and no later than ten business days; accepted expedited requests use five business days.
Under §63G-2-203, an agency may charge reasonable actual production cost. Staff time begins after the first quarter-hour and uses the rate of the lowest-paid qualified employee. The agency may not charge for its review of whether the record is open. Prepayment can be required if estimated fees exceed $50 or prior fulfilled requests remain unpaid.
Lawful personal use. West Jordan public access does not permit stalking, threats, harassment, impersonation, or misuse of protected voter, motor-vehicle, court, or registry data. Follow each custodian's use limits.
West Jordan Records Denials and Appeals
GRAMA classifies Utah records as public, private, controlled, protected, or exempt under another law. A denial must identify the withheld record or portion, cite the authority for withholding it, and explain the right to appeal. Asking for the public segregable portion can be more effective than insisting on a file that contains both open and protected data.
An appeal first goes to the chief administrative officer under §63G-2-401 and generally must be filed within 30 days. If the denial is upheld or deemed denied, the requester may proceed to the Government Records Office or district court under §63G-2-404. The Government Records Office was created in 2025 to replace the former State Records Committee. Utah's Government Records Ombudsman also assists agencies and requesters.
Some limits arise outside GRAMA. Recent vital certificates, sealed and expunged cases, juvenile and adoption files, protected family-court pleadings, motor-vehicle information, and At-Risk voter records are not released merely because a government office holds them. When an online route ends, valid alternatives are a clerk copy form, public terminal, office inspection, mail request, Archives appointment, or narrow request to the proper custodian.
Note: Silence in an online index may reflect coverage, transfer, classification, spelling, or jurisdiction rather than proof that no record exists.
